Once again I was watching Grey's Anatomy this week and they had another small story on a little girl with a heart problem. It was a very sad episode because the little girl didn't live, no matter what the doctors tried to do to save her. Seattle Grace hospital is widely known around Washington for excelling in neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedics, but they only have one really good pediatric surgeon on their team. That really got me thinking. If my child needed some sort of major heart surgery would I want to take him or her to a hospital that was known for many good things, but did not have the strongest pediatrics unit. You bet not. I would want my child to go to a hospital that specialized in caring for children. That way I knew that all of the doctors time would be devoted to helping my child, and they would have years of experience to back that up.
Luckily, right in Milwaukee there is a great hospital that only treats children. They have won many awards and are dedicated to doing everything humanly possibly to help sick children. I know if my child needed heart surgery I would not have to think twice about going there because they treat kids every day and all they know is children. I'm not saying that the many other hospitals around Milwaukee would not be as competent to take care of my child, but I would feel so much better in handing over my child to people who work and know children extremely well. My friend and I were talking the other day and she babysits for two little twin girls who are only three years old. The girls are very wild and crazy and love to get into trouble. My friend worries what would happen if one of them got hurt. I told her she shouldn't worry so much because we are lucky enough to be around so many great hospitals, especially one that treats children exclusively, so if anything were to ever happen, god forbid, they would be more than taken care of.
